California Habitat Conservation Fund On June 5, 1990 the voters of California approved Proposition 117, the California Wildlife Protection Act. The Act accomplished two things.
- Prohibits the sport hunting of the California Mountain Lion
- Established the Habitat Conservation Fund
The Habitat Conservation Fund created a legacy which requires the state of California to invest $30 million per year for 30 years towards habitat protection. While the emphasis is on habitat acquisition, in the case of aquatic resources especially, some funds may be spent on restoration and enhancement.
